We are spellbound by the way that Isabel and Stella transform natural, found and sculptural objects into spectacular, gilded furniture and furnishings.
Sisters, Isabel and Stella, share a studio in Scotland where they apply their decorative vocabulary to objects that include tree branches, seed heads, twigs, animal skulls and shells, transforming them into tables, lamps, mirrors, chandeliers, decorative panels and enchanting collectibles. Stella sculpts using traditional gesso (rabbit-skin glue mixed with chalk dust), with an average of seven coats needed before 18-24 carat gold leaf can be applied. Isabel then adds the Midas touch through the use of both water gilding and oil gilding. These traditional techniques have not changed for hundreds of years and are identical to those used by Renaissance artists and craftsmen.
